Sid Caesar turns 90 today
An Emmy award winning American comic actor and writer best known for the 1950s television series Your Show of Shows and Caesar's Hour, and for his role as Coach Calhoun in Grease and Grease 2. Caesar was born in Yonkers, New York, son of Max Caesar and his wife Ida, Jewish immigrants from the Russian Empire who ran a restaurant.

Ann Lee died 228 years ago today
Leader of the United Society of Believers in Christ’s Second Appearing, or Shakers. In 1774 she and a small group of her followers emigrated from England to New York. After several years, they gathered at Niskayuna. They worshiped by ecstatic dancing or "shaking", which dubbed them as the Shaking Quakers, or Shakers.
